Boating & Alcohol Don't Mix

I think the title of this blog post speaks for itself, don't you think? And it's 100% true! When it comes to driving (and boating) or anything that involves operating moving vehicles/machines, drinking alcohol is always a bad idea. That means Boating and Alcohol Don't Mix. Agree? It's like the same thing when you say - "Don't drink and drive."
It is a sad thing to analyze though that many still refuse to listen and follow the golden rule not until they have bad accidents from driving drunk! Oh my, oh why? do they have to learn their lesson the hard way!

So before planning to have some fun with friends, perhaps you should stop for a while and try to get some vital information about boating safety and the prohibit use of alcohol before boating.

It must be of great help that the Arizona Game and Fish Department has been doing something helpful about this such as strict implementation of OUI (Operating Under the Influence) checkpoints ans saturation patrols, providing boating education classes, etc. Aren't we glad that the Arizona's lakes and rivers are being protected to save lives?
Boating Education has been approved by National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) which includes general nautical information, various boat types, knot tying, anchoring, and many more. if you are interested to take the boating class, don't hesitate to call (623) 236-7325, or you can take the class online as well.

We can always have fun without alcohol, after all. If you can't stand having fun without it, forget about boating (and driving), stay home and drink all you can! LOL!

Hollywood Bowl

Since it was started on July 11, 1922 with only benches made of simple wood on the hillsides of Bolton Canyon, it has been continously known as a place of concerts and large perormances or world-renowned musicians and legendary performances.

But it is not only exclusive for music performances but also a place for school commencement exercises, a place for dining, etc.

Currently, it has a seating capacity of almost 18,000 but still continue to expand in the near future.

Los Angeles Grand City Tour & Movie Stars' Homes Tour

March 15, 2008
We signed up for the LA City Tours with Starline Tours. The tour package includes visits to the Hollywood Bowl, Beverly Hills, Farmer's Market, Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Sunset Strip, Rodeo Drive and a quick visit to a place called "Mission Nuestra Senora Reina de Los Angeles" where small shops (mostly Mexican products) are located.

I was nearly tempted to shop for purses, (I got a lot of these stuffs already :)) but finally I decided not to buy one this time.
I thought of sharing my trip to each of the places mentioned on this post, so more of this trip will be added as separate posts.

Fun in Branson

There's so much real fun happening in Branson nowadays. DO you want to experience the First Annual "Great American Pie Show?" This will be held on April 24-25 at Branson Convention Center which is adjacent to the Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel and is just across the street from Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing.
As a traveller, you couldn't deny the fact that Branson, Missouri is well known for its appealing attractions worth visiting such as the scenic Lake Taneycomo, deep lush green golf courses, theme parks such as in Silver Dollar City, etc., - much more fun when I had a visit to St. Louis last 2007, those days where I only visited the zoo, botanical and butterfly gardens. I wanted to have more visits that time, but places are limited. How I wish I could have known Branson before that. I could have been definitely enjoying lots of fun!

If you want to win big prizes, start booking your stay at the Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel and you can even join the Great American Pie Contest which will be sponsored by Branson and Taste of Home magazine. This national pie recipe contest also features Al Roker from the Today Show. Who knows? You could be the lucky winner of the first prize of $2,500 in cash with a trip for two for a 4-days/3-nights fun-filled vacation in Branson!

Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel is offering a special room rate until March 22, '09 and has reserved a block of rooms for April 20-29. So, plan a good vacation when going to Branson by booking your reservation the soonest.

Travel Hassles!

This will be our 4th time travelling out of the country going to the Philippines for a vacation. Unfortunately, purchasing domestic air tickets there is so much full of hassles while you're out of the country. I couldn't believe it...I tried booking our tickets for at least 3 hours to no success because my credit card was declined. The bank says it's because many credit cards are victims of fraud mostly airline purchases.

Anyway, when we did finally get our reservation confirmation, it took us more than 30 minutes on phone stand by to talk to a live person from the reservations department :(.

Well, it was good we did this earlier rather than doing it few days before our trip! Or else, I would be super stressed before I could board the plane!

Weather in Arizona

I grew up in a tropical country. So, weather wise, when it comes to heat, I can say I can pretty much withstand it. Just like Arizona, I can nearly compare its climate like the Philippines.

Perhaps, if you prefer or love the Arizona heat better than the freezing climate of Alaska, it might be good to think about getting a good vacation home or property rentals there. Did you know that Scottsdale Fine Properties can help you search investment properties as well? Many people find it more comfortable and convenient buying or renting properties in Arizona, the fact that you don't even have to worry about snow storm! LOL! If you plan to stay in Arizona for good, no problem,Arizona relocation services can help.

Living in Arizona is not as much worst as you think, speaking of climate. It's actually an ideal place to have good investments ;).

Hollywood's The Guinness World of Records Museum

This museum is located right on Hollywood Blvd., a block away on the east portion of Chinese Theater.

When we visited the place, it seems most are not that fond of going there, as nobody was there except me and my husband, and a couple. We have been to this museum many times during our previous several trips in other states, so it was kinda boring seeing the same thing over and over again. But since most of our visit is on the area, we had a quick glimpse inside.

By the way, there's a charge worth $12.95 for adults and $6.50 for children (6-12 yrs old). Don't waste your money if you think you have already been visiting Guinness World of Records in the past because you are exactly seeing the same things inside.

Kodak Theater

March 14, 2008

We went back walking along Hollywood Walk of Fame with some friends. We then thought of going to Kodak Theater since we were all first timers. We were all curious to see what's inside, so we went in :).

The Kodak Theater opened in Nov. 2001, where Academy Awards are being held. It's always a place where they hold live theaters and where American Idol is also held. Guided tours are also available, but we missed the time as it ends as early as 4PM.

Inside the theater are some signature shops and small food stores located on both sides of the building inside from the entrance.

Hollywood Wax Museum

Beverly HillBillies replica

Marilyn Monroe's replica

This is located along Hollywood Blvd., closely adjacent to Guinness Book Of World Records and other museums. First timers would always be curious to see what's inside, not bad for a $12.95 admission charge. If you have been into the museum hundred times, you will find the admission charge expensive and would wish the museum would just be free, LOL!

The museum shows many wax replicas of famous personalities and celebrities. Each replica would take at least 3 months to make with combined efforts from sculptors, hair stylists, eye and teeth specialists, make-up artists, costume and set designers and special effects technician with a whooping $25,000 to make one replica. Tough job, huh?

The Hollywood Sign

According to its history, the Hollywood sign is more than just 9 white letters spelling out the city's name.

Would you believe before the hollywood sign existed, the place where the sign is today used to be the home of citrus groves and stray camels? And that was wayback 18th century until the year 1916. By the year 1920, Hollywood boomed and America was film-crazed. The sign then arrived on the scene the year 1923.

The Hollywood sign rests on top of Mt. Lee Perch that can be visibly seen for miles. It's known to be one of the most photographed in Hollywood and a mecca for millions of tourists and visitors who come to take pictures each year.

Surprisingly, it's illegal to hike or get anywhere near the sign. The sign is protected by restricting gates, park rangers and security cameras. However, some recommended legal spots are available where you can go and get that perfect shot. -
  • The Hollywood and Highland - located on the corner of Hollywood Blvd. and Highland Ave. Entry to the public parking is on the Highland, north of Hollywood Blvd. Other options are through Metro Rail Red Line or by taking the Highland Ave. and exit from the 101 highway.
  • Beachwood Canyon Drive - You can take good photo shots here at Glen Holly, Glen Oak and Cheremoya. These streets are located north of Franklin Ave. which is the next major east/west street north of Hollywood Blvd.
  • Gower Boulevard - This place provides similar views as that of Beachwood Canyon, only that the sign is much easier to see.
  • Lake Hollywood - getting here is a little bit tricky but half the fun. Exit Barham Blvd. from 101 highway. Take Barham east to lake hollywood drive. Turn right on lake Hollywood Dr. and follow top of the hill. Lake Hollywood Dr. bears sharply to the right once you're on top of the hill. At the bottom of the hill, - bear sharply to the left onto Montlake Drive. Follow Montlake to Tahoe. Turn left on Tahoe to Canyon Lake, turn right, then proceed up the hill. On your left will then be a park - topped by a big, beautiful white sign.

Mexico Vacation

I am actually eyeing to visit Europe hopefully mid-months of next year, but on the other hand, I thought of wanting a mexico vacation late this year or early next year to see some beautiful beaches there. Besides, I always love to be in the tropics and just close to the water. I would always get a nostalgic feeeling seeing the white sand beaches. It made me curious when I came across the website of Karisma Hotels and resorts that offers inclusive vacation packages to Mexico and Cancun.

One thing as a good bonus on staying in the resort is about their "gourmet-inclusive" offer that makes the trip a worthwhile experience, talking about good dining experience. And there's much more...the resorts can be choices with beach front locations with a casual atmosphere, some secluded nooks, etc...And who doesn't love the hot tubs, the hammocks, massages coupled with a friendly service?

it must be a big WOW for travellers, huh?

The Hollywood Walk of Fame

When you say you want to "see stars" in Hollywood, - it connotes 2 things; - seeing the bronze-star-plaques embedded in pink and charcoal terrazzo squares on the world's most famous sidewalk - (Hollywood Walk of Fame), and seeing actual Hollywood movie stars walking either on the streets of Hollywood Blvd. to the streets of Beverly Hills. We always wanted to see both, right?

The Hollywood Walk of Fame extends on Hollywood Blvd. from Gower Street to La Brea venue, and on Vine Street from Yucca Street to Sunset Blvd. These stars embedded on the sidewalks honors various celebrities, famous radio, TV and stage performers, directors, singers, and all other well-known personas.

Right below the celebrity's name on a five-pointed star is a round emblem reflecting the celebrity's category, such as a motion picture camera for movie stars/directors, a TV set for those in the TV industry, a photograph record for singers, recording artists and songwriters, a radio microphone for radio personalities, etc...

Pay Day Loans

Have you checked a reliable program online that offers quick solutions to your financial needs? I found a site that might be of help for you when you need cash fast without any credit checks involved.

Applying online is just easy with some few simple requirements. You don't have to worry about your past or present credit history, so how cool is that? Their services are nationwide and it is hassle-free because all you need to do is get online, fill up an application and do it all without leaving your home. And when they say quick, they really mean fast cash, with friendly and courteous service :).

Hollywood Adventure

March 11, 2008

We got the chance to go Hollywood later in the afternoon and visited the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame, Wax Museum and Hollywood's Guinness World Book of Records which were all adjacent to one another.

As many know, Hollywood is one of the most interesting and fun place to visit. It's one of the highly most visited place in the world by many tourists and locals alike. And who doesn't dream of going Hollywood someday? See and hear the story behind the world's most famous Hollywood sign, and perhaps meet some Hollywood stars on the streets of Beverly Hills, and etc...

I should say I had real fun to be one of those million people walking on the streets of Hollywood and Beverly Hills!

Trip to California

March 10-16, 2008 - Los, Angeles, CA

This is a late post but it's still worth sharing. While I was checking this blog, it was too late for me to discover, I haven't shared about our LA, California adventure so here it goes:

We were glad that the weather greeted us so fairly at Woodland Hills, where our hotel was located when we arrived 10-March, 2008. We then spent the rest of our time for dinner at Morton Steak House, just a block away from our hotel with our friend Janell.

As usual, I had my favorite menu - fillet mignon, well done, with a side of garlic green beans. LOL, afterwhich we were treated to a very yummy dessert - a specialty of Morton's!

I forgot the name of this one, but it was really super tasty!

Anyway, this was our first day. We had lots of enough time to take a rest the rest of the day. Well, after that heavy dinner, our sleep was sooooo good! :).

Get Ready To Jump Right In!

Few months ago, while I was watching sports channel on TV, my attention got focused with those snow surfers playing. I told my husband I want to try it one day when I get the chance. I also asked him if he had tried it before, and he said yes, while he was still in his teens...30 years ago, LOL!
I won't wonder why my curiosity is so strong about trying this game, perhaps, it's due to the fact that I grew up all my life in a tropical country, and nobody plays that at all! :)). So, I thought it's probably fun and cool doing this.
Then, I remembered my husband telling me that getting a snowboard is really expensive, after which I didn't insist talking about it anymore, the last time we talked about it.
Now, I guess, I still have some hope left convincing my husband after I discovered Snowboard Mountain. :)
Snowboards that are budget friendly are not hard to find. It's because Snowboard Mountain does it all! This is really worth recommending site for snowboarders out there who love to play in the snow as well!
Snowboard Mountain offers lots of mountain sports gears aside from their various collections of snowboards with big discounts. Whether you are looking for high quality snowboards or mountain sports gears that are more affordable, or getting some tips on how to start snowboarding, want to get more valuable informations by reading snowboard reviews, etc..., Snowboard Mountain is the right place.
As you further surf on the site, get the chance to check what they offer - protective gears, snowboard apparels, bindings, accessories, and much more. You can even learn how to snowboard online, - how cool is that? ;).
So, stop thinking you can't afford to snowboard! You can get a lot of choices in getting your discounted snowboard without any difference from that of a new and expensive one! But buying a cheaper one does NOT mean no quality of style and performance. Get ready to jump in it and have it all!

Happy snowboarding! :).

The Grand Canyon National Park (3)

Informations and Guides are not to be ignored on both of the rims. There are ranger-guided activities where park rangers offer walks, talks and evening programs.

Some Safety Tips:

  • During summer, watch out for possible thunderstorms. Stay away from the rim and open areas when lightning occurs. Seek shelter.
  • Always stay away from cliffs and stay on trails.
  • All pets must be on leash. They are only permitted in developed areas above the rim, but not on the shuttle buses.
  • Mountain bikes and other vehicles are only restricted on maintained roads.
  • When hiking, carry food and water, wear sun protection and appropriate clothings and footwears.
  • Hiking to the river and back in one day is NOT recommended. You'll wear yourself out.
  • No animal feeding for deer, squirrels, etc. It's illegal.
