Kodak Theater

March 14, 2008

We went back walking along Hollywood Walk of Fame with some friends. We then thought of going to Kodak Theater since we were all first timers. We were all curious to see what's inside, so we went in :).

The Kodak Theater opened in Nov. 2001, where Academy Awards are being held. It's always a place where they hold live theaters and where American Idol is also held. Guided tours are also available, but we missed the time as it ends as early as 4PM.

Inside the theater are some signature shops and small food stores located on both sides of the building inside from the entrance.

Hollywood Wax Museum

Beverly HillBillies replica

Marilyn Monroe's replica

This is located along Hollywood Blvd., closely adjacent to Guinness Book Of World Records and other museums. First timers would always be curious to see what's inside, not bad for a $12.95 admission charge. If you have been into the museum hundred times, you will find the admission charge expensive and would wish the museum would just be free, LOL!

The museum shows many wax replicas of famous personalities and celebrities. Each replica would take at least 3 months to make with combined efforts from sculptors, hair stylists, eye and teeth specialists, make-up artists, costume and set designers and special effects technician with a whooping $25,000 to make one replica. Tough job, huh?

The Hollywood Sign

According to its history, the Hollywood sign is more than just 9 white letters spelling out the city's name.

Would you believe before the hollywood sign existed, the place where the sign is today used to be the home of citrus groves and stray camels? And that was wayback 18th century until the year 1916. By the year 1920, Hollywood boomed and America was film-crazed. The sign then arrived on the scene the year 1923.

The Hollywood sign rests on top of Mt. Lee Perch that can be visibly seen for miles. It's known to be one of the most photographed in Hollywood and a mecca for millions of tourists and visitors who come to take pictures each year.

Surprisingly, it's illegal to hike or get anywhere near the sign. The sign is protected by restricting gates, park rangers and security cameras. However, some recommended legal spots are available where you can go and get that perfect shot. -
  • The Hollywood and Highland - located on the corner of Hollywood Blvd. and Highland Ave. Entry to the public parking is on the Highland, north of Hollywood Blvd. Other options are through Metro Rail Red Line or by taking the Highland Ave. and exit from the 101 highway.
  • Beachwood Canyon Drive - You can take good photo shots here at Glen Holly, Glen Oak and Cheremoya. These streets are located north of Franklin Ave. which is the next major east/west street north of Hollywood Blvd.
  • Gower Boulevard - This place provides similar views as that of Beachwood Canyon, only that the sign is much easier to see.
  • Lake Hollywood - getting here is a little bit tricky but half the fun. Exit Barham Blvd. from 101 highway. Take Barham east to lake hollywood drive. Turn right on lake Hollywood Dr. and follow top of the hill. Lake Hollywood Dr. bears sharply to the right once you're on top of the hill. At the bottom of the hill, - bear sharply to the left onto Montlake Drive. Follow Montlake to Tahoe. Turn left on Tahoe to Canyon Lake, turn right, then proceed up the hill. On your left will then be a park - topped by a big, beautiful white sign.

Mexico Vacation

I am actually eyeing to visit Europe hopefully mid-months of next year, but on the other hand, I thought of wanting a mexico vacation late this year or early next year to see some beautiful beaches there. Besides, I always love to be in the tropics and just close to the water. I would always get a nostalgic feeeling seeing the white sand beaches. It made me curious when I came across the website of Karisma Hotels and resorts that offers inclusive vacation packages to Mexico and Cancun.

One thing as a good bonus on staying in the resort is about their "gourmet-inclusive" offer that makes the trip a worthwhile experience, talking about good dining experience. And there's much more...the resorts can be choices with beach front locations with a casual atmosphere, some secluded nooks, etc...And who doesn't love the hot tubs, the hammocks, massages coupled with a friendly service?

it must be a big WOW for travellers, huh?

The Hollywood Walk of Fame

When you say you want to "see stars" in Hollywood, - it connotes 2 things; - seeing the bronze-star-plaques embedded in pink and charcoal terrazzo squares on the world's most famous sidewalk - (Hollywood Walk of Fame), and seeing actual Hollywood movie stars walking either on the streets of Hollywood Blvd. to the streets of Beverly Hills. We always wanted to see both, right?

The Hollywood Walk of Fame extends on Hollywood Blvd. from Gower Street to La Brea venue, and on Vine Street from Yucca Street to Sunset Blvd. These stars embedded on the sidewalks honors various celebrities, famous radio, TV and stage performers, directors, singers, and all other well-known personas.

Right below the celebrity's name on a five-pointed star is a round emblem reflecting the celebrity's category, such as a motion picture camera for movie stars/directors, a TV set for those in the TV industry, a photograph record for singers, recording artists and songwriters, a radio microphone for radio personalities, etc...

Trip to California

March 10-16, 2008 - Los, Angeles, CA

This is a late post but it's still worth sharing. While I was checking this blog, it was too late for me to discover, I haven't shared about our LA, California adventure so here it goes:

We were glad that the weather greeted us so fairly at Woodland Hills, where our hotel was located when we arrived 10-March, 2008. We then spent the rest of our time for dinner at Morton Steak House, just a block away from our hotel with our friend Janell.

As usual, I had my favorite menu - fillet mignon, well done, with a side of garlic green beans. LOL, afterwhich we were treated to a very yummy dessert - a specialty of Morton's!

I forgot the name of this one, but it was really super tasty!

Anyway, this was our first day. We had lots of enough time to take a rest the rest of the day. Well, after that heavy dinner, our sleep was sooooo good! :).

Get Ready To Jump Right In!

Few months ago, while I was watching sports channel on TV, my attention got focused with those snow surfers playing. I told my husband I want to try it one day when I get the chance. I also asked him if he had tried it before, and he said yes, while he was still in his teens...30 years ago, LOL!
I won't wonder why my curiosity is so strong about trying this game, perhaps, it's due to the fact that I grew up all my life in a tropical country, and nobody plays that at all! :)). So, I thought it's probably fun and cool doing this.
Then, I remembered my husband telling me that getting a snowboard is really expensive, after which I didn't insist talking about it anymore, the last time we talked about it.
Now, I guess, I still have some hope left convincing my husband after I discovered Snowboard Mountain. :)
Snowboards that are budget friendly are not hard to find. It's because Snowboard Mountain does it all! This is really worth recommending site for snowboarders out there who love to play in the snow as well!
Snowboard Mountain offers lots of mountain sports gears aside from their various collections of snowboards with big discounts. Whether you are looking for high quality snowboards or mountain sports gears that are more affordable, or getting some tips on how to start snowboarding, want to get more valuable informations by reading snowboard reviews, etc..., Snowboard Mountain is the right place.
As you further surf on the site, get the chance to check what they offer - protective gears, snowboard apparels, bindings, accessories, and much more. You can even learn how to snowboard online, - how cool is that? ;).
So, stop thinking you can't afford to snowboard! You can get a lot of choices in getting your discounted snowboard without any difference from that of a new and expensive one! But buying a cheaper one does NOT mean no quality of style and performance. Get ready to jump in it and have it all!

Happy snowboarding! :).

Your Baby's Cool Styles

Would you be glad seeing your baby wearing the coolest styles in town? Or perhaps those clothes that are considered to be retro-inspired, trendy and even fashionable? And who thinks babies are not included in the fashion's world so to speak? Babies are gorgeous models! Who knows? And parents can be filled with glee just watching their tots wearing those baby clothes that once they wore during their younger days, LOL! But you have to check these baby clothes online so you would know what I am talking about.
There are lots of types which you can choose from when shopping for your baby clothes such as designer baby clothes, and trendy designs for your infants or toddlers. In fact, I am bookmarking this site for my shopping later. I don't have any small kids, but I am actually planning to buy some few gifts for my tiny nephews and nieces in the Philippines. It's such a perfect timing finding this site just in time for my travel to my country this April :).
I actually like some onesies (like the photo above) for my smaller nephews. It's kinda cute letting them wear those and will take photos of them doing their innocent poses :). It would be cool!
And guess what? They are offering 50% discount sale. You have to take this opportunity fast so you can save, don't you think?
Happy shopping!

Kids Zone Fun Games Online

For parents and kids alike, you no longer have to argue on what software games you have to buy. Although many such kind of games are being developed and sold in the market today, the prices are sometimes too much. Besides, kids always want new games from time to time, - which means they would want mom or dad to buy more, more and more different games at a time! Just imagine, many families of today are hanging on to a tight budget due to the present economic situation, don't you think?
But hey, how about getting your kids play free online games? Have you heard about MEGA Brands Kids Zone yet? And by the way, it's also fun for adults as well :). With Mega Brands' free games, your kids get a lot to choose from. They can enjoy playing the multi player games, quests, battles, shooting, racing or drawing games. And take note; - it's free to play indefinitely!
For younger kids, I suggest the drawing game for simpler tasks. Here, they can also color pre-made canvass online. It's ideal for kids who love art and drawing. Kids who are older as well as adults can play the quests or multi player games. I find it more challenging playing the "Legends of King Arthur." If you love knocking down your opponent, this is your game, LOL!
Don't worry, this site is safe and secure for your kids. Parents can go ahead and try playing the games on the site first before the kids can play to get the hang out of it. Let your kids enjoy the total fun and immersive online games. You won't ever regret showing them this site because this (might) mean big savings instead of buying software games in stores.

GRAND CANYON - A Land To Inspire Our Spirit

One of the most memorable trip that I had was our tour to the Grand Canyon South Rim. We had some few stops on our way to the Canyon, but I'll focus about the Grand Canyon for the meantime.

The Grand Canyon has 2 rims; the south and the north rim. We toured on the south rim so I couldn't give much details what's all about on the north rim.

The South rim has 7,000 ft. elevation and can get very cold (20-50'sF) or very hot (80'sF or higher) depending on the season.

Grand Canyon is considered to be one of the most inspiring landscapes that overwhelms the senses. Visiting the canyon is not merely seeing the view, but involves discovering history as well as learning more about plant and animal stories.

The Grand Canyon National Park is a heavenly gift. Our responsibility is to take care of it for our future generation.
